BIG NEWS ON THE BOOK BEAT! Oh, Beautiful: An American Family in the 20th Century has been named a finalist in two memoir categories of the 2011 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, which honor the most exceptional independently published books written in the English language throughout the world.

Independent publishers include university presses, publishers that are not part of large conglomerates or multinational corporations, and self-published authors like John Paul Godges, author of Oh, Beautiful. His book was named a finalist in Memoirs (Historical/Legacy/Career) and Memoirs (Other).

Although not named the winner in either category, Godges was thrilled to have his book placed among the cream of the crop in the highly competitive memoir categories. “It’s not victory,” said Godges, “but it’s a validation of quality, and that’s the most important thing for any author.”

The awards reception will be held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on May 24. “It just so happens that I’m going to be in New York that evening,” said Godges. “So now I have a party to attend!”
