Ida Godges upon being named employee of the month for United Airlines
at Los Angeles International Airport. The month was September 1990.
IDA FACES A BREAKING POINT with Joseph when he vows to remove Geri from a board-and-care home in 1995. Ida cannot support the idea. The dispute compels her to reflect upon her seven decades of life. She is no longer willing to live in the shadow of her husband. She leaves him. She returns to the town that she had fled at the age of 18 and becomes a new woman at the age of 70. She reunites with Joseph only when she can honestly claim that she can lead her own life.
